There was a loud knock on the door, when the old man opened the door, the neighbors and the people of the neighborhood were all together, the elders were angry, seeing which the elders who came out of the house were a little worried, and asked what is the matter, is everything okay? ?
Where is the welfare, brother, your boy keeps making carvings on the walls of our house with coal, I don't know what, he has blackened all the walls, why don't you forbid your ladle?
Explain it or it won't be good."
The elder Mian sent the people of the neighborhood away for a while, but they were a little angry with this complaint. don't give a chance"
The son bowed his head and listened, but where was he to stop? These semi-slanted lines were his hobby and who can be indifferent to his hobby.
Then, obeying his father, the boy gave up blackening the walls, but in any empty space other than the walls, he used to make something with chalk or coal, thus this hobby continued to grow. With the help of chalk on the blackboard, he used to fulfill his hobby, sometimes scolded and sometimes encouraged.
As time went on, he started participating in calligraphy and calligraphy competitions held in school, whatever writing or design he saw, he would make it with the help of chalk.
He did not know the rules of calligraphy or letters at all, but no matter how difficult the letter was, he would write it down on paper. He had neither formal education nor recognition. He used to be the first to come to the class, he would do his exercises with chalk on the black board, he would practice properly before the rest of his classmates and teachers came and if sometimes a teacher would see him, he would be surprised that teenagers and new students Such a nice letter. Gradually he matured in his practice but lacked regular guidance, there was no calligraphy teacher in the school and the art or drawing teacher taught him a little but the boy could write better than those teachers. He continued to win small competitions and became known in the neighborhood as a banner and advertisement writer. At the same time, I got matriculation and it became difficult to continue my education, so I stopped going to school.
He would take a brush and paint and go out into the streets to write names and banners on people's shops and earn some money. He was not getting satisfaction from this work. was When I left school, time became abundant and work flowed.
One day he found a book somewhere called, Learn Calligraphy. This book contained information about Urdu and Arabic calligraphy such as basic information about brushes, pens and colors. He memorized that book and started practicing the contours by memorizing them. One day he went to a big book shop and asked for a book related to his work, he did not find any particular book, but he found a small booklet on Arabic script and bought it. Now he could not read Arabic, but he knew the shapes of Arabic letters.
While doing small jobs, he started working for big companies and institutions.
Once, on a busy highway in Karachi, he was busy writing the signboard of the Taj Company when a big vehicle stopped under the signboard and the person sitting in the vehicle signaled him to get down. When he came down, he saw that an Arab person was talking to him and he was not familiar with the Arabic language. He got down and told the boy that the Sheikh wants you to go with him to Saudi Arabia and do calligraphy work for him there. The boy said that I don't know how to speak and write Arabic, so how can I do this, so the Arab person said that the letter in which you are writing this banner is a famous Arab letter and not everyone can write it. You write it with great skill and say I don't even know.
He was a friend of the Arab Saudi ambassador and came to pick up skilled people from Pakistan, he liked the work of the Pakistani calligrapher and asked him to accompany him. Thus, after taking permission from home, he made a passport and handed it over to the Sheikh and a few days later he was sitting in the Saudi city of Riyadh writing a banner. After working for many years, living in Saudi Arabia, he mastered the Arabic language and became almost perfect in all Arabic letters and scripts. His sponsor was a good man and respected this Pakistani calligrapher immensely.
Once, while offering prayers inside the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah, a desire arose in his heart that I wish I had the opportunity to write calligraphy with my own hand on a plaque inside the Prophet's Mosque, so that the world would be surprised. With this desire, he came to Riyadh from there, continued to work, time passed but the desire continued to grow.
Once he heard from somewhere that it was announced in Madinah that calligraphers from all over the world were invited to write a specific text in a specific script on a fixed date and submit it, which calligrapher would win the first position in the competition. If successful, he will be appointed as the calligrapher of the Prophet's Mosque. He felt that the time had come for his wish to be fulfilled, he went there and saw that such calligraphers from all over the world had brought their work that his status was nothing in front of all of them. He went and wanted to present his work but no one took him seriously, he was neither well-known nor had any work that was popular, and from above he was a signboard and banner writer instead of a book. And then not even Ahl-e-Jan, and so he was not allowed to participate and he returned to Riyadh disappointed. It was close to the end of the competition and he was not doing a single one, he almost gave up when an Arab came to his shop and said, "I want a plate of such and such a size in khat thulth" he wrote. So he was surprised that no one could do such excellent work for so few Riyals. He said you come with me and work for me there will be double the pay. The boy refused, so he said in Arabic, "I want to open a shop in Medina, if there is another calligrapher, let me know." When the boy heard the name of Medina, he said, "Take me and I will work there." He felt a hope that I might become a resource.
Thus he went to Madinah, almost angering the first kind sponsor. It was close to the end of the competition and the work with the new sponsor was overwhelming, it was very difficult to leave the shop. The new sponsor was extremely happy with his work, there was no one else in Saudi Arabia who would do such work. The sponsor was as if he had become his devotee, he would feed him the best food, whenever he met him, he would kiss his hand and head, so he would do great things. One day he told his sponsor that I want to participate in the calligraphy competition in the Prophet's Mosque, please help me. The sponsor accepted his word and somehow took him to the competition by telling his acquaintances, with great difficulty his name was registered and he was first written a text as a sample for the competition and then it was submitted. . Thus his written plaque and he participated in this competition.
The competition ended and it was the day of announcing the results, what was the status of his work among expert teachers from all over the world, however, the result of the competition was announced and contrary to expectations, he won the first prize by defeating the expert calligraphers from all over the world. When Imam al-Haram and the jury asked the name and country of this calligrapher, he said:
"From Shafiq-ul-Zaman, Pakistan"
Silence fell upon the whole assembly, and the calligraphers of the whole of Arabia were once amazed at how a foreign name and a non-Arab had won over the Arabs, and the man who was not allowed to participate in the contest had won.
In this way, Mr. Shafiq-ul-Zaman's good luck and fortune, where he wanted to put a plaque and where to illuminate the door and wall, he was appointed as the calligrapher of the Prophet's Mosque. Gradually he became the teacher of all calligraphers there. Today, after spending almost half a century in Saudi Arabia, eighty-five percent of the work on the wall of the Prophet's Mosque, ﷺ, is written by the hands of Shafiq-ul-Zaman, even the door (Bab Salam) upon entering and reaching the entire place. The world of Islam gets the blessing of presence and greetings at the holy shrine, all these places have been decorated by the pen and brush of Shafiq-ul-Zaman. It is no less than a great blessing for a foreigner to find a calligrapher in Al-Masjid al-Nabawi ﷺ... Today, the Imam of the Makkah Haram considers it a privilege and pride to meet the calligrapher of the Madani Haram and consult with Shafiq al-Zaman for all the calligraphy works of the Haram al-Sharifeen. is done...!!!
Whoever falls in love with the beloved Prophet then forgets himself
May Allah grant us the love of the beloved Prophet, Amen......
