*When the Nile River dried up.
*When the Nile River dried up...*
The Nile had dried up.
The river Nile whose water used to beat
and watered the fields of Egypt,
That river had dried up.
The people of Egypt were troubled when they saw this.
This was not the first time. Every year the Nile River dried up, the people of Egypt said:
"The River Nile demands a human sacrifice every year".
When he would perform this sacrifice, the Nile would start to roar again.
People would be happy and their farms would start flourishing again.
Now once again the Nile had dried up, the faces of the people were withered with worry. This time Darya was asking them to sacrifice a human being, they were all forced.
It is about those days when Hazrat Amr bin Al-Aas (RA) conquered Egypt, there were armies in Egypt, Amir al-Momineen Hazrat Umar Al-Farooq (RA) appointed Hazrat Amr bin Al-Aas (RA) as governor in Egypt. And after a few days, the Nile River dried up. People's anxiety was palpable.
People started making preparations for human sacrifice in the river Nile, now people were happy that the river would start flowing again after the human sacrifice. And prosperity will be prosperity.
Finally, the day came when a man had to climb the river Nile. People came out early in the morning getting ready as if it was the time of Eid, happiness was reflected on everyone's face. Hazrat Amr bin Al-Aas (RA) was very worried because of the drying up of the Nile River. When he heard that people were going to sacrifice a human being to sacrifice the Nile River, he lamented that this was a complete injustice. Yes, where is the wisdom of killing a human being for a river? !!!
Hazrat Amr bin Al-Aas (RA) went to the Nile River with some of his men. He wanted to stop this sacrifice at all costs. When he reached the Nile River, he saw a strange sight there, people wearing bright clothes. There was joy on everyone's face.
When these people saw the governor, they were surprised and thought:
"The witness governor has also come to see this sacrifice".
Hazrat Amr bin Al-Aas (RA) saw that people had come there with a fifteen-year-old girl. It was turning yellow. The girl was moving forward with staggered steps, she came to a halt on the bank of the river with the trembling people, she turned and looked at her old father, the father had tears in his eyes, he was forced, the people The daughter was being dragged to her death, he could not do anything, watching her die with his old eyes. The girl's mother was overcome with grief.
The girl freed her hand and ran towards her father, the people ran after her and caught the girl and brought her back to the river bank, the girl started crying and begging the people.
"Leave me, I don't want to die."
The people held her tightly, now the patience of Hazrat Amr bin Al-Aas (RA) was exhausted, he hurried forward and freed the girl from the captivity of those people, saying:
"What is this? Why do you want to kill this girl?
The people got worried hearing the governor's words, the girl ran to her father, the girl's mother went ahead and hugged her. The girl was sobbing and the mother was also crying trying to silence her.
People said:
"O Amir! The river Nile has dried up, he demands a human sacrifice every year.”
Hearing this, Hazrat Amr bin Al-Aas (RA) looked at the people with distaste and then asked:
"Does this river dry up like this every year?"
People replied:
“Yes, every year the Nile dries up like this. And when it dries up, we sacrifice a human life, with that the water of the river begins to rise and suddenly the river floods."
Hazrat Amr bin Al-Aas said:
"This is cruelty."
People said:
"O Amir! Every year on the 11th of the lunar month we choose a young girl and with the consent of her parents we offer her to the river Nile with jewels and beautiful clothes and then the water of the river starts to rise.
Hearing this, Hazrat Amr bin Al-Aas said:
"Islam does not like these things. Every year you kill a human being and throw it in the river. This is absolute cruelty. Islam has come to erase these useless things. You will not do this in the future.
Hearing this, the people said:
"Then the river will dry up, our fields will be ruined, we will die of hunger, our animals will perish."
Hazrat Umar bin Al-Aas (RA) said:
"Don't worry, nothing like that will happen."
Hazrat Umar bin Al-Aas did not allow them to perform this ritual, now the people were very worried that if this is not done, there will be drought everywhere and we will all die of hunger. They did not understand what to do, they did not have enough courage to disobey the Governor's order. They all stood with their heads bowed in silence.
Hazrat Umar bin Al-Aas (RA) sent the girl home with her parents and people also started leaving there slowly.
For a few days, the river Nile became completely dry, not even a drop of water came in it, the people were fed up, their farming was based on the water of the river Nile. Lands became barren, people started dying of hunger, animals were dying because of lack of fodder. Seeing this, people left Egypt and went to other areas. There was desolation everywhere.
When Hazrat Umar bin Al-Aas (Radi Allahu Anhu) saw it, he was also worried, and finally he wrote a letter to Ameerul-Momineen Hazrat Umar Al-Farooq (Radi Allahu Anhu) and clarified the whole situation in it.
When Ameerul Momineen Hazrat Umar al-Farooq (RA) read this letter, he wrote in reply to Hazrat Umar Ibn Al-Aas (RA):
"You gave a very good answer to the Egyptians, Islam does not allow such things. He has come to erase such nonsense, I am sending a rak'a with this letter, you should throw this rak'a in the river Nile.
When Hazrat Amr bin Al-Aas (RA) received the letter of Hazrat Umar Al-Farooq (RA), he recited after the letter the rak'ah that was to be thrown into the Nile River, in which it was written:
"This letter is in the name of the river Nile from the servant of Allah, Umar bin Al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him.
O river! If you were flowing by the command of Allah, then we also ask Allah for your release, and you are released by the command of Allah, and if you flow by your own will and stop by your own will, then there is no concern for you. And there is no need."
Hazrat Amr bin Al-Aas (RA) put this rak'ah into the Nile River and came back. When the people of Egypt woke up in the morning, they were surprised to see that Allah had released the Nile River in this way, but now it was in the river. The water had risen very high and the river was overflowing.
The river has flowed.”
From that day till now, the river Nile continues in the same way and its water has not dried up even for a moment.
The treasure of adornment is called Almas
If there is a longing for water, it is called thirst
Thus the river quenches everyone's thirst
The one who quenches the thirst of the river is called Umar bin Khattab.
